Entry List Updates w/ Photos!

Entry List Highlights
We now have twenty entries for the Spring Thaw Classic Car Adventure. The British are still in the lead with 10 cars, followed by the German entries with four cars. The Italians are starting a charge with two gorgeous Alfa Romeo entries. The Swedes remain at two entries and the list is rounded out by a unique American Studebaker. We've been talking with the local Datsun and 510 clubs, so we may see some Japanese entries come in over the next two weeks.

Don't Think You'll be Ready???
Quite a few potential entrants have emailed us to let us know that they won't be ready in time for the 2009 event, but they're looking forward to the 2010 running of the Spring Thaw Classic. The common theme for the emails is a comment or two of what state the project is currently in. After giving it some thought, I can't help but think that this is the perfect reason to motivate us all to finish the project in time!  Think your car needs too much to participate? Take a look at our new Entrant's Gallery…some of our current entries are very ambitious with their plans! We're still waiting on photos, but I've heard rumors that one entrant doesn't even have floorboards in his vehicle yet. I guess for some of us the Adventure isn't enough on it's own…just getting to the Spring Thaw is going to be an Adventure!

New Sponsors: Classic Motorsports Magazine and Wilkinson’s Automotive

As the event draws closer, your organizing team has been working hard to secure prizes and swag deals for all participants in our event. Classic Motorsports Magazine will be sending some gifts for the competitors, as well as helping us out with the awards at the end of the event. If you aren't already a subscriber to Classic Motorsports, you'll have an opportunity to check out the magazine and their no-nonsense approach to classic cars and vintage racing.

Wilkinson's Automobilia in Vancouver BC is THE stop for Automotive literature, scale models and other memorabilia. Looking for a rare factory repair manual for your classic? It wouldn't surprise us at all to find one sitting on the many shelves in the back of the store. Whether you're looking for books, magazines, repair manuals, models or classic advertising…the crew at Wilkinson's will either have it in stock, or they'll be able to find it for you. For our competitors not located in Vancouver, head over to eAutomobilia, Wilkinson's website, for a searchable database product.

A big thanks to both Classic Motorsports and Wilkinson's (and our first sponsor, Bring a Trailer, for offering to help us out!

USD Entry Rates

When we initially dreamed up the idea of the Spring Thaw Classic Car Adventure, our currencies were essentially equally valued. Given the changes since then, however, we felt it important to up-date the entry fees as follows:

EARLY BIRD ENTRY FEE     $325.00 CAD / $285 USD
Received before Sunday, March 15, 2009

REGULAR ENTRY FEE        $375.00 CAD / $325 USD
Received between March 16 – April 10, 2009

Absolute deadline for entries is April 10, 2009

We have updated the website listing, but will leave the entry form as-is. The electronic submit button appears to be working correctly, and we think it’s like 1970’s fuel injection…if it’s working, don’t play with it!

You can take a look at the entries received so far by visiting our online entry list. Currently the British are in the lead, with the Germans close behind.

Sincerely,

Dave & Warwick

Welcome to our new sponsor – BringaTrailer.com

We admit it, we're always dreaming of being able to squeeze
another classic in the garage. At first we thought we were being pretty
clever about keeping an eye on Craigslist or Ebay,
but soon we discovered a team far more dedicated then we were! Their
website is normally our first stop each day to see what classic car
gems they have uncovered for sale. They favor regularly driven
real-world classics, cars with well chosen period-correct
modifications, and usually skip the blue chip restorations and trailer
queens unless they offer something amazing in aesthetic or rarity.

If
you are a classic car fan we hope you're already visiting their site
regularly. If not, we're pleased to announce that Bring A Trailer has
jumped on board as a Supporting Sponsor of the Spring Thaw Classic Car Adventure! Yet another good reason to check out the Bring A Trailer website.

It turns out the team over at Bring A Trailer aren't just window shoppers either. Check out the event coverage section of their website. The BaT team believes classic cars should be driven and enjoyed, just like our team here at TouringAdventure.com. Their
photos and humourous accounts of adventures amongst the beautiful and
not-so-beautiful classic cars in Calfornia keep us going as we wait for
the snow to melt up here.

Entries are now OPEN for Spring Thaw!

The Spring Thaw is now open for entries! The information package and entry form are now on the "Entry Information" page.  We have teamed up with the West Coast Rally Association for insurance and sanctioning purposes (we are both active members of WCRA too), and we have the route and hotel details arranged.  We aren't releasing the route until the driver's meeting on May 1st, but we can tell you that we will be overnighting on Saturday at Sunpeaks resort near Kamloops.  Don't forget, your entry fee includes hotels!  Now we just need YOU!  Let us know if you have any questions.

First off, we have finalized the early bird entry fee at $325 CAD.  After March 15th,
the fee will go up to $350. Registration cutoff will be three weeks

we will all be enjoying an evening at Sunpeaks Resort, where there is

classic motorists, and get your club to add us to their event
calendars. Most of all, have a happy holidays!

Pre-Run Photos

SpringThaw_prerun06

On the weekend of November 8/9, we completed the first pre-run of the Spring Thaw route.  The Friday and Sunday portions of the trip are all set and ready to go, while we will be making some additions to Saturday's leg to give everyone a full day of driving. All the roads are a lot of fun, and we are looking forward to finding a few more to add into the mix!  Here are some "teaser" photos for you after the jump…
